Vacation Bible School

“Walking as Disciples” Vacation Bible School Wrap Up

Over 60 people participated in Vacation Bible School (VBS) this summer, spanning four consecutive Sunday afternoons in July and August. All ages attended Bible Studies focused on what is known about the twelve disciples. Each week we touched on one of four main subjects: Follow Me, Heal Others, Love Others, and Go into the World and Tell Them about Me. There were crafts, music and outdoor activities (including a Water Slide!) for the youngsters to enjoy. Adults participated in crafts and music, as well as a book talk group discussing “Home to Harmony” by Quaker Pastor Philip Gulley and “St. Maybe” by Eugene H. Peterson. The Membership Committee helped wind up Vacation Bible School with an Ice Cream Social, during which the youth presented a cute skit and we all sang wonderful discipleship songs. What a great VBS finale!

This year we added “Discipleship Opportunities” to our VBS line-up. Each week we collected items for a different charity based on a list of their “12” most needed items. During our second week, Barbara Barnett visited with two birds from St. Francis Wildlife Association and gave an excellent presentation.

Big Bend Disaster Animal Response Team: donations of 12 coins totaled $108.00

St. Francis Wildlife Association: items for the care of wildlife (bleach, detergent, towels, paper towels, birdseed, stoneware bowls, pet carriers, unsalted peanuts, Esbilac puppy milk replacer, trash bags, antibacterial soap).
Refuge House: 168 items of school and craft supplies (folders, pencils, notebooks, glue, construction paper, crayons, a backpack, notebook paper) and $25.00.

Ronald McDonald House: 34 “home-away-from-home” items (foil, dish soap, canned goods, snacks, cereal, juice, peanut butter, trail mix, a disposable camera, Clorox Wipes, and freezer bags) and $10.00.

A special thanks to all the volunteers who made this year’s Vacation Bible School a great success!
