“Rejoice
with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”
Romans 12:15
Among Us
God bids us to care for one another.Congregants of the Lafayette
Presby-
terian Church are experienced in serving as caring, concerned
friends
during times of rejoicing and times of weeping. Over and over, LPC
members and worshipers demonstrate commitment to providing care to
those who need it.
On Sunday, August 30, the LPC congregation demonstrated that commit-
ment, when the congregation commissioned 13 lay people and sent them
out
to honor and serve our Lord Jesus Christ as Stephen Ministers. Now,
just as
there are Stephen Ministers within our LPC congregation, there are,
also,
within our congregation, those who may want to receive care.
All of us – it’s inescapable – face challenges in life.
Some challenges require more than a person’s determination and
effort to
meet that challenge. Sometimes, more than the combined efforts of
one
person, their family and friends, is required, to face an immediate
crisis or
endure a sustained trial.
Our Stephen Ministers are prepared to walk with those facing
difficulties.
Relying on God’s eternal presence, the Holy Spirit’s unfailing
power, and
Christ’s healing love they accompany care receivers facing
life-altering losses
or changes.
If you, a loved one or a friend, want to receive care from a Stephen
Minister, contact Team Leaders John Lown, Referrals Coordinator
(877.4428); Louise Sadler (878.8410); David or Sandra Wiszneauckas
(894.1833).
Let us give thanks to God for the generous caring and concern
expressed in
word and deed by the LPC members and worshipers. And let us ask for
God’s continued blessing on our Stephen Ministers and their care
giving
relationships.
Special thanks to Membership Committee members Rita Tucker,
Carolyn
Smith, Lois Johnson, Phil Ferguson, Carole Ferguson, Christy Stacey,
and
JoAnne Winfree for facilitating the reception that followed the
Stephen
Ministry Commissioning service.
