“For
even though I am absent in body, yet I am
with you in Spirit, and I am glad as I see the resolute firmness
with which you stand together in your faith in Christ.”
Colossians 2:5
I Am With You
The Lafayette Presbyterian Church has a group of men and women
skilled in caring for individuals facing an immediate crisis or a
sustained trial. These men and women were commissioned by the
congregation on Sunday, 30 August 2009, to serve our church and
community as Stephen Ministers. Our Stephen Ministers underwent
extensive training to develop and refine their caring skills. Filled
with faith, trusting in God’s healing power and eternal presence,
they are ready to accompany individuals who God calls forth to
receive care.
Who receives the care of a Stephen Minister? Individuals who receive
the care of a Stephen Minister may be undergoing prolonged medical
treatments or have chronic health conditions. They may be living in
a long-term care facility; grieving separation from, or the death of
a loved one; divorcing; personally affected by the shifting economy;
raising children as a single parent; relocating; coping with a
family member’s deployment; retiring or recently retired; adopting;
caring for an impaired family member; struggling with their faith;
hospitalized or facing an otherwise stressful or sad time.
Are you going through a time of crisis or challenge? Do you know
someone who is suffering? Is one of your friends struggling? Could
you or someone you know benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister?
