We Welcome Visitors and
Newcomers

I want to say just a few words to welcome you and introduce Lafayette Church. Since you are looking at this link, we may not yet know each other. But you have some interest in a Christian church, perhaps even a Presbyterian form of Christian church. Are you on a search for a church where you, and your family, feel you fit? We know that’s important! There are a lot of people here at Lafayette who came and stayed because they found a place where they know people care about one another, and about them.

Worship and Christian education, fellowship, nurture and mission are important to us, and we do them well. But we are still pilgrims, not yet where we want to be. Most of us still have questions about our faith, at least some of the time, and this is a safe place for asking questions. We are all searching for something we have yet to find fully, and here we find helping fellow travelers. We try to follow Jesus, we try to love God, we try to love our neighbors, and we fall quite short much of the time. But that doesn’t discourage us because we are engaged here in a Christian community that shares our trying, shares our searching, values our doubts and our understandings - and builds our sense of hope and trust in God.

If you are on a journey to build up your faith, or to link up with others in service and mission, you will not be alone here. Here are people who struggle in faith honestly, who are filled with longing just like you are, who desire a Christ-centered and inclusive community just like you do.

This is a good place for feeling at home. We invite you warmly to see if it’s a good place for you.
                                                                                                  Dr. John Lown

Session Recieves New Members On Sunday Afternoon

Session receives New Members on Sunday afternoons, just after worship, when requested.
It is a relaxed and friendly setting.

You may unite with this church by ...
  • Profession of Faith (and Baptism, if not previously baptized)
  • Re-Affirmation of Faith
  • Transfer of Membership from another Christian fellowship

Speak to the pastor, John Lown (877-4428), and he will counsel and guide you in your decision and in the steps of uniting with the church.

Preparatory classes are not required for those transferring their membership or reaffirming their faith. Throughout the year, study sessions on the Presbyterian Church and on the meaning of Church Membership will be available to you.

Questions asked of those Professing their Faith and Reaffirming their Faith ...

  1. Do you trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
  2. Do you intend to be Christ’s disciple, to obey His Word and to show His love?
  3. Will you be a faithful member of this congregation, giving of yourself, supporting and participating in its service to God and its ministry to others to the best of your ability?

We warmly invite you
to walk with us in faith
and in Christian ministry
.
