The Bible rarely mentions glass. During Old Testament times glass was so rare that Job refers to it as a form of wealth. (Job 28:17).
Sometime around 2500 B.C. people in Egypt discovered how to make glass. They made objects by wrapping molten glass around the outside of molds and then they removed the core of the mold when the glass cooled.
Glass blowing which began sometime around 100 B.C. became a cheaper and easier way to make glass. As it became more common, glass was used to make cups, dishes, bottles and other items. By the time of Jesus, glass vessels were common and glass was no longer considered to be a luxury.
