MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE NEWS

KIRK NIGHT: The dates for May are the 13th and the 27th.

FELLOWSHIP LUNCHEON: The May luncheon will be sponsored by the Christian Education Committee on May17th. Make note on your calendars that is the third Sunday in May, the Sunday AFTER Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is on the Sunday that would normally be our luncheon Sunday. Changing the date will allow special family plans to honor all of the Mothers.

THE ENTRÉE WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE FELLOWSHIP LUNCHEON. Last year some of our “fellas” prepared their special dishes in order to continue the special treatment of the ladies following Mother’s Day. We will have the entrée provided, but if any of you guys want to prepare the side dishes or at least part of them, that would be a special treat for the ladies and everyone. Be sure to notify the CE Committee when you bring in your dishes.

GARAGE SALE: The Garage sale and hand made craft sale will take place on May 2nd. Come and see what kind of wonderful treasures you will be able to take home with you. Tell everyone that you know to come too! The sale profits will be donated toward badly needed repairs on The Rock. Carole Ferguson and her team have worked hard for many hours to make the yard sale successful. Evalyn Owens, The Quilters, and our “Crafters” have also worked hard for many hours to make the craft sale a success. Thanks to all who donated items for both sale efforts and/or worked in preparation for the event. IT SHOULD BE A GREAT SUCCESS.

FROM YOUR MISSIONS COMMITTEE:
The Missions Committee received a nice note from the Thornwell Home for Children and we would like to share a bit of it with you. It went like this:

‘Dear Friends, You have put gladness in my heart. Psalms 4:7.

What puts gladness in your heart? This question was recently posed to a group of middle-school youth. Traditional answers abounded…home, family, friends, food, ocean waves, mountain tops, money, love, God. Taking this a step further the moderator had the youth categorize these glad feelings. Interestingly, the results found that the categories fell into 1) a sense of belonging 2) a quiet place and 3) security. The youth then relished in an “A-HA” moment when they realized all of this deepened into the overall love from God.’

Thornwell strives to provide these elements to the children/youth in their care. It’s interesting that these elements aren’t only important to youth but to each of us, in all stages of life, and we can find these elements in God’s grace and loving kindness. Yes, an ‘A-HA’ moment is one of those times in your life that all the pieces fall into place. Any wonder that God is in the center of it!
