Beth House will begin serving as Lafayette Presbyterian Church’s first Director of Christian Education on Monday, January 4, 2010. She comes to us after serving since 2003 as the DCE at Christ Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee. Beth also was the DCE at First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, FL, from 1997 to 2003.
Raised in the First Presbyterian Church of Brandon, Florida, Beth earned her B.A. degree in Literature from Eckerd College. In 1995 she began her studies at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA, earning her Master of Arts degree in Christian Education.
While working in Delray Beach, Beth continued her training and completed the rigorous requirements for the highest certification as an Educator in the Presbyterian Church - a Certified Christian Educator. Beyond the M.A.C.E., this calls for further extensive study and practice in Biblical interpretation, reformed theology, human development, religious education theory and practice, Presbyterian polity, program and mission, and worship and sacraments. She is one of only four Certified Christian Educators in our presbytery. She is also an ordained Elder and a trained Stephen Minister.
Beth is married to Alan House. Alan is a graduate of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (VA), and a Presbyterian Elder. He works at FSU in the Facilities Department in administration. They have a much-beloved greyhound, Casey, whom you will probably get to meet at the church some days.
We are greatly enthused to have a Christian Educator as personable and accomplished as Beth to lead us in a growing ministry to youth, to young families in our community, and with older adults, too, as well as intergenerational programs and missions!
Welcome, Beth and Alan!!
