With
the beginning of 2010, Troop 10 hasn’t slowed down in raising
fine young men, and will continue at full pace coming into
January.
On the first weekend of December, a contingent of Troop 10 boys
braved the cold and rain to go camping at Falling Waters State
Park near Chipley, FL to visit the highest waterfall in all of
Florida. All scouts and leaders had a rip snorting good time,
and learned many scouting skills and achieved much rank
advancement.
The end of school for the semester signaled the approach of
Winter Break and time off from school. It also meant that the
week following Christmas Day, Troop 10 boys would be heading out
to Wallwood Scout Reservation for the annual Winter Camp. In
contrast to the blazing heat of normal summer camps at Wallwood,
scouts would get to see an entirely different side to Wallwood:
different plant and animal life, different temperature, and a
different program.
The weekend of January 8th and 9th has a scheduled trip to
Kolomoki Mounds State Park in southwest Georgia. Kolomoki is
home to some of the oldest Native American mounds in Georgia,
and is a fascinating historical site with plenty to learn about
the culture that lived there. In addition, there are scenic
trails and fishing opportunities aplenty, which make this
camping trip a guaranteed blast!
At the end of January is a camping trip for those scouts
preparing for the 2010 National BSA Jamboree, where scouts from
all over the country will travel to Ft. AP Hill in Virginia.
Among many scouting activities, scouts will make friendships
with other scouts from all different places, and grow and learn
in a new environment with lots of friendly faces.
Scout Sunday is February 7th. Immediately following the service,
Troop 10 will uncover its time capsule buried under church
property since 2000! It was planned to be open 10 years later,
on the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouting in America.
